Apple invites media for ‘education announcement’ in New York

Yesterday I wrote a post in which i predicted that there will be no paper back books. I guess that day is not far as Apple has just rolled out invitations to the media for an education announcement in New York, next Thursday, Jan 19.

The invite arrives following a flurry of speculation pertaining to the nature of the event, which was first hinted by AllThingsD. The publication reported on Jan. 2 that Apple’s presser will not be huge —at least not compared to the company’s splashy theatrical announcements—nor will it cover any iPad or Apple TV hardware news.

Instead, it will focus on iBooks, another report said. With education the focus, this leaves iBooks and perhaps textbooks, another market Jobs wanted to disrupt, as the main attraction. 

According to an excerpt from the authorized Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson, Jobs wanted to disrupt the school textbook business:

He held meetings with major publishers about partnering with Apple, the book says. If textbooks were given away free on iPads he thought the publishers could get around the state certification of textbooks. Mr. Isaacson said Mr. Jobs believed that states would struggle with a weak economy for at least a decade. “We can give them an opportunity to circumvent that whole process and save money,” he told Mr. Isaacson. 

Microsoft TellME

So we all no that every company wants to take down "Siri" . Microsoft recently came up with the tellme service in the 7.5 mango update .

So first of all the plus points

1- You can tell it to call/send message to any contact

2- works pretty well on bing search

Now the down points

1-It actually sucks

2-if you have an american accent there will be no problem for you but for others its bad trip

3-50% of the time it doesnt even do what you tell it to say

4-Not very user interactive

In comparison we have the Siri and Google voice data . In reality nothing can beat Apple in this topic . Siri is amazing its user interactive and works flawlessly even if you have an Indian accent . But Tell me can compare to Google's voice search for now . But we do know that google will be packing up something pretty neat to take both Siri and TellMe down , but for now nothing to beat Siri

Samsung rleases Galaxy Newton. [Humor]

Samsung recently showed off their new product called the Note. It is a huge phone+tablet hybrid and samsung continued  its pathological plagiarism of years-old iOS designs. The phone has a friggin stylus and looks like the years old Apple Newton except for the fact it is a bit more Hi-Tech. So lesson learnt boys. Apple is way ahead of it's competitors. 

Top 5 iOS 5 Features

As we all know it has been more than 2 weeks since iOS 5 GM was seeded to the general public. So, after using it for 2 weeks here is the list of top 10 iOS features.

1) iCloud -Certainly this is the feature I believe is the best because I have multiple iDevices so syncing these devices becomes a hassle. Thanks to iCloud I click a picture omy iPad and it shows up on my iPad 2 thanks to photostream. Same goes for my contacts and applications.

2) Wi-Fi Sync -Although jailbreakers have been using this feature for a while this was the first time it was released to non jailbroken users. What it does? Well it's simple. Whenever you plug in your iDevice into a charger it sync with iTunes. So you are cable free.

3) Tabbed Browsing -Tabbed browsing on the iPad is a breeze to use. Thanks to it now browsing has become more easy and quicker. Now I don't have to open a seprate window to see the tabs and then go to the web page instead now I can just flick through the tabs just like we do in a PC/MAC browser.

4) Notification Centre -We all were annoyed by the blue pop up notifications but thankfully in iOS 5 Apple made a whole new way to handle notifications. Now whenever a new notification comes now it's just a subtle animation on the top instead of the ugly blue box and does not interrupt what you are doing. The experience in the lock screen is also better. All the notifications are arranged one under the other and you can just swipe across the application icon and it will directly send you to the app that sent you that notification. Then we have the notification centre which shows all your notifications in one place and can be opened anywhere by just swiping on the top of the screen.

5) Multitask Gestures -Multitask gestures on the iPad are amazing. They take multitasking to the next level. Android can not even think of something like this. You just swipe or pinch and you are multitasking.

iPhone 4 is finally here

So people the wait is over. The rumour was true. iPhone 4 is here and it says to change everything AGAIN. This time apple has gone wild wid the iPhone 4. This time apple has changed its design too and it is the slimmest smartphone ever at just 9.3mm it is 24% thinner than the old iPhone. Apple has included many exciting features in it like a 5MP camera with LED flash, front camera for video calling, the highest resolution mobile screen at 960-by-640 pixel at 326 ppi and 800:1 contrast ration all thanks to the new technology retina display will tell you about this later, it has 2 mics. the apple A4 processor, larger battery and the most exciting thing apple has used the steel frame of the iPhone as it's antennas for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, UMTS and GSM.Now lets get into details. Lets start with the design the iPhone 4 has a full glass body with steel bands on its side and like i said these are its antennas. Apple claims that the glass they have used is used is a new glass and it is more stronger than sapphire crystal pretty impressive. The next is the screen it is a new technology used called the retina display of RD which has pixel density of 326 pixels per inch and at resolution at 960-by-640 pixels. Wait, i forgot the most important thing the iPhone 4 has got one more sensor the gyroscope. Which works great with the accelorometer and gives you better gaming experience. So now the iPhone 4 has 5 sensors the proximity sensor ehich turns of the display during a call when a solid thing is brought near the phone, the ambient sensor which adjust the screen brightness according to the environment, the accelerometer which senses motion and the 3 axis gyroscope which will giveyou better motion gestures and a compass too.
